Minimal Pregnancy Wardrobe

Shirt: Madewell, Skirt: Asos, Bag: Madewell, Booties: Rachel Comey

I hesitate to write a post about clothing in this space where I mostly talk about how we live in our small space but getting control of my wardrobe has been an important part of living in our space.  While I have been quite diligent with the "one in, one out" rule, throw something like pregnancy into the mix and it can be difficult to keep my (small) closet in check.

I have the benefit of going through this for the second time and the lesson learned from my first pregnancy is to buy less maternity clothes but ensure the pieces I buy are versatile, coordinated and quality. And then wear these items like a uniform. I work in an office most days so these outfits reflect my business attire.  Switch out the pencil skirts for maternity jeans, booties for flats and these outfits transition to the weekend.

A Stretchy Pencil Skirt
Mine is ASOS (similar Here) and has made it through 2 of my pregnancies and was borrowed by a couple of expecting friends.  If I didn't already have this skirt I would get the Storq skirt.  I also have a black short sleeved bodycon dress from ASOS that I get tons of wear out of.

Blazer: Aritzia, Pants: Jcrew, Bag: Madewell, Booties: Rachel Comey

A Flattering Drapey Blazer

I have worn this Aritzia silk blazer (link here) more times than I can count and I wore the black version as much through my first pregnancy.  No matter how awful you are feeling, throw on this blazer and you look pulled together.  While not technically a maternity clothing item it is perfect for pregnancy.

Shirt: Forever 21, Pants: Jcrew, Bag: Madewell, Booties: Rachel Comey

A Good Chambray Shirt

Tied over the belly or left to hang, I always feel better in Chambray.  Button downs are great for those awkward post-birth months too. This is from Forever 21 a couple of years ago but you can find something similar at Jcrew, Madewell, Aritzia, Zara etc...

Black Pants

Simple but structured black pants are the best thing besides a dress.  These ones from Jcrew (link here) actually don't fall down, which is a miracle in Maternity clothes.  I think it's due to the elastics that sit under your belly rather than a big bulky bellyband.

Stripes for the win

I love this St James for Jcrew shirt (link here). I bought it a couple of sizes up and have been wearing it throughout my pregnancy. The drop shoulder is flattering and I can tuck it in for the office or leave it out with jeans for the weekend.

Accessories

Buy a good pair of comfortable shoes. At 31 weeks pregnant now I am spending more time in flats and sandals but lived in these booties for the first 6 months.  And while clothing can be difficult a great bag can make any outfit better.
