Multifunctional Stools and Side Tables for a Small Space
In a smaller space there isn’t room for redundancy and often the limited furniture you have needs to provide multiple purposes. This is why I love side tables as stools or stools as side tables. A well-placed stool can hold your coffee, a plant, a book or all these things and also quickly be removed to provide an extra seat at the dining table when you have guests (back when we could have guests over, right??!).
We have been without a coffee table for years and love the openness it provides in our small living room. Instead of a coffee table, a couple of side tables are shuffled around the room to provide a flat surface for snacks or drinks. We currently have the Article Tana side table in the living room and have used it at the dining table in a pinch (mostly for Trevor, I’m too short to sit on it).
I’ve rounded up a few stools that have caught my eye that would also make great side tables and some of them are even stackable. Round up below! I haven’t found a white or black one I like but will keep an eye out. If you have any others you love please share below!

Artek’s iconic design is a wonderful option in many colours and materials. Laura Fenton author of Little Book of Living Small introduced me to this affordable version, the Linon set of 4. And a Small Space client recently confirmed that they have held up well for years!

Sundays Field Stool - love the size of this stool as it easily doubles as a bedside or living room table and a seat at the table.
