Sharing a Kid's Room in 600sqft (Part 5)
I'm still weighing options for the shared kid's room. I've been feeling the pressure to make a decision as Mae is growing at a much faster rate than I expected and suddenly Theo seems way too grown up to be in a converted crib. At a recent Ikea trip for a mirror we came across this option, the Ikea Stuva Loft Bed. It falls in between the Ikea Kura and the Oeuf Perch in price range. Boasting more features than the other loft beds, it includes a small closet, shelves and a desk all in the same footprint as loft beds with fewer extras. I like the height of the bed and the high walls for safety. Also, the vertical ladder caught my eye as it doesn't interfere in the space like other angled ladders.
While the design is very smart there is something about this bed that feels too busy to me. Though we would surely benefit from an extra closet, we don't need a desk at this point in time. Without the desk there is a structural bar across the back that I don't love. While all the additional storage is smart, I worry that the closed ends and bulky closet will make the room feel smaller and cluttered. Or maybe I'm wrong and all the white will make the bed disappear. Regardless of these concerns the bed is still in the running for us.
I plan to put together a summary post with all of our "Sharing a Kids Room" bed options soon. See past posts here ... Sharing a Kid's Room (1) (2) (3) (4)
